Import photos from a camera or phone using Photos on Mac

You lot can connect a photographic camera, iPhone, iPad, or other mobile device to your Mac and import your photos into the Photos app.

You can also import photos from a camera's retentiveness bill of fare. See Import photos from storage devices and DVDs using Photos.

Import photos from a camera, iPhone, or iPad

1. Connect a camera, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.

2. Make sure the photographic camera or device is turned on and the camera is fix to the correct mode for importing photos.

   For information on which mode to cull, see the instructions provided with your camera. If your camera has a "slumber" style, make certain it's disabled or set to a time span long enough to allow your images to download.

3. Open Photos (if it isn't already open), then click the device under Devices in the sidebar.

   Note: Devices appears in the sidebar only when a camera or storage device is connected.

   

   Photos displays all the photos and videos on the device.

   Tip: If you want Photos to open up whenever y'all connect this device, select the Open Photos checkbox.

4. If you want to delete photos from the camera subsequently importing them, select the "Delete items" checkbox.

   This option does not appear for all cameras.

5. To ready where to import the photos, exercise i of the post-obit:

   • Import into an existing anthology: Click the "Import to" pop-upwards menu, then choose the anthology yous desire from the list.

   • Import into a new album: Click the "Import to" pop-up menu, choose New Album, enter an anthology proper noun, then click OK.

   • Import into the Photos library without specifying an album: Click the "Import to" pop-up menu, then choose Library.

6. Exercise ane of the following:

   • Import all new photos: Click Import All New Items.

   • Import a pick of photos: Click the photos y'all want to import, then click Import Selected.

7. If a bulletin asks whether yous want to delete or keep the photos on your photographic camera after they're imported, click Delete Items to remove the photos, or click Keep Items to continue them on the camera.

   Photos imports your photos. To abolish importing, click Stop Import.

8. When all photos have been imported, disconnect the photographic camera or device from your estimator.

If you didn't import the photos into an anthology, they announced in the Imports album in the sidebar. They also announced among the other days and months in your Photos library; to browse them, click Library in the sidebar. To organize imported photos into albums, select photos in the Imports album and elevate them into albums in the sidebar.

If you have photos taken with a motion-picture show photographic camera, you tin can import them into Photos by converting them to digital files (using the Prototype Capture app and a dwelling scanner). With Continuity Camera, you can take a picture or scan a form or certificate using your nearby iPhone or iPad and have the photograph or scan appear instantly on your Mac. See Insert photos and scans with Continuity Photographic camera. Yous tin can also use the Prototype Capture app to gear up Photos to open automatically whenever yous connect your camera. Run across Scan images in Paradigm Capture and Transfer images in Image Capture.

Tip: Y'all can alter the date and time of scanned images in Photos; select the image and choose Prototype > Accommodate Date and Time.

Import from a tertiary-party mobile phone or device

If you apply a third-party telephone or other mobile device, you lot may be able to connect the device to your computer using a USB cable, then copy photos from the phone into Photos just as you would from an external storage device.

Annotation: Some 3rd-political party phones may connect to a computer using a Bluetooth (wireless) connexion. Utilize the Bluetooth File Exchange app to import photos via Bluetooth.

1. Connect the phone to your computer.

2. Drag the photos onto your computer's internal deejay.

3. Do ane of the following:

   • Elevate files or folders from the Finder to the Photos window.

   • Drag files or folders from the Finder to the Photos icon in the Dock.

   • In Photos, choose File > Import. Select the photos or binder that you want to import, so click Review for Import. If you selected multiple photos or videos, select the photos or video that you want to import, then click Import [number] Selected or Import All.

Please don't include whatsoever personal information in your annotate.

Maximum character limit is 250.
